Level Zero

Students have never touched a machine and possibly never a needle. Self taught students are considered beginner and will require an assessment for their skill level.

Level 1 Beginner

Students at this level have used a sewing machine but still need constant refreshers on threading the machine and foundational basics. This level is still developing hand-eye coordination and motor skill refinement. At this stage students are typically not prepared to tackle sewing patterns or fabric cutting tasks. The completion of 3-terms, 3-camps, or equivalent is required to move onto Level 2.

Level 2 Competent but Beginner

Students at this level should be able to sew straight and curved seams. They may still require constant refreshers on threading the machine but should be able to demonstrate foundational basics. At this stage students are may have worked with small and easy sewing patterns. The completion of 3-terms, 3-camps, or equivalent is required to move onto Level 3.

Level 3 Advanced Beginner

Level 3 students are confident with sewing and cutting foundation. This level has refined motor skills and more precision in the alignment in sewing and pinning their projects. They are able to demonstrate foundational understanding with confidence. Students have worked with more difficult sewing patterns, usually containing lots of pieces and can work with fabric shears. The completion of 3-terms, 3-camps, or equivalent is required to move onto Level 4.

Level 4 Intermediate

Students at this level can receive instructions and work independently, only requiring demos and help for new techniques. They are confident working with sewing patterns and have almost, if not already, refine cutting skills. The completion of 3-terms, 3-camps, or equivalent is required to move onto Level 5.

Level 5 Intermediate

Students at this level can receive instructions and work independently, only requiring demos and help for new techniques. Level 5 students work with more complicated garments and intricate details.

Please Note :

Self taught students are automatically considered beginners as we find they are missing the proper foundation. We want to make sure the projects and patterns used at the intermediate level are age (and size) appropriate before they begin. Feel free to contact us regarding age and skill level.
